And it's so good.
The Gossip Girl reboot released its first official trailer on June 9, and let's just say we're not sure if we're ready for the darker, steamier update on the popular series. Goodbye, CW—hello, HBO Max.
There's just so much to be excited about: Approximately 45 seconds into the trailer, it's clear the series—which was developed by original GG creator Joshua Schwartz—is going to prove critics of a reboot wrong. Any grumblings about this being a cheap imitation of the original will likely be silenced after watching, because the reboot looks so different from the original. Serena and Blair would be proud.
Don't believe us? Take a look for yourself:
One thing that is similar to the original is that Kristen Bell is returning to voice the infamous Gossip Girl narrator. However, the cast is much more diverse than the OG (not that it was hard—the first iteration was mostly white). Plus, there are LGBTQ+ lead characters. We love to see it!
One fan tweeted, “Okay I was skeptical about the gossip girl remake..reboot...sequel (?) but omg the trailer looks so good??? And like super diverse!! Hype???"
Another added, “How am I supposed to go to work and sit through four meetings when the gossip girl reboot trailer is out and I haven’t dissected it frame by frame yet.” Which… same.
Instead of Gossip Girl being an anonymous blogger, the drama now comes from an Instagram account. But that doesn't mean anyone from the original cast (like GG himself) won't make an appearance in the Gossip Girl reboot.
“We’ve reached out to all of them to let them know it was happening, and we’d love for them to be involved if they want to be involved, but certainly didn’t want to make it contingent upon [them being involved],” Schwartz said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, according to Entertainment Tonight. “They played these characters for six years, and if they felt like they were good with that, we want to respect that, but obviously...it would be great to see them again.”
In the meantime, see you July 8 on HBO Max.
